I work in the city and when my family have to go to my hometown, which takes 12 hours long car trip, I usually plan ahead so that my family will not be spending the day on fast food, candy bars, chips and soda. I plan ahead to have a healthy foods on our road trip. For some people, taking a long car trip can destroy their diet. But we have here some healthy tips to keep you healthy on your trip.
Always keep yourself hydrated. You can bring with you some bottles of water, energy drink, or even fruit juices. I tried buying bottled water at bus terminals and they cost more. For me, it is always smart to bring water otherwise you will probably be walking a thin line between drinking enough water and the need for extra stops.
I have listed some of my favorite foods I usually prepare during our road trips:
Cleaned seedless grapes
Sliced oranges
Bananas and apples
Mixed nuts (almond nut, peanut, sun flower seeds, cashew nut)
Pretzels
Snack- sized dried fruit (such as raisins, dried mango)
Homemade cookies
Sandwiches made with lean luncheon meats and low fat cheese, fried egg and fresh spinach
Some cooked rice and viands that cannot be spoiled easily
Fruit juice boxes (pulpy oranges, apple juices)
Bottled water
I usually pack one cooler and one bag for non- refrigerated snacks. It is also a good idea to bring some napkins, plastic utensils, wet wipes, and some empty plastic bags for trash. Well, there are many good choices out there that you might bring. Start making smart choices to travel well and keep you feeling good on your journey. Try to maintain a healthy diet while you are on the road. Prepare, pack up and enjoy the trip.
