Media pronouncements about the death of the foreign holiday appear premature.  As despite a weak pound, failing airlines and the current economic climate demand for apartment and villa accommodation on the popular holiday island of Lanzarote actually increased last month.  Up by 14.2% in January according to leading island travel portal, Lanzarote Guidebook.

The recently released figures from Lanzarote Guidebook reveal that a total of 639 British holiday makers enquired about accommodation on the island during the course of January.  A figure that has increased by just over 14% versus January 2008.  Suggesting that British consumers are clearly reluctant to relinquish their place in the sun – despite the credit crunch and the current state of sterling versus the euro.

The majority of those seeking accommodation – 75.5% – were searching for villas in Lanzarote.  Which outweighed interest in holiday apartments by a ratio of almost 4:1.

Overall, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote´s newest resort, was the focus of more accommodation enquiries than any other destination on the island  Accounting for 41.1% of all demand – and so pipping close resort rival Puerto del Carmen for first place.

However, Costa Teguise, once a busy holiday destination in the north of the island, trailed in behind badly in fourth place.  With more people seeking rural holiday accommodation in Lanzarote than villas or apartments in Costa Teguise.

Playa Blanca was also the number one choice for those searching solely for villa holidays – by some distance.  Accounting for 42.7% of all villa enquiries.- whilst Puerto del Carmen was the focus of 32.3% of all demand.

Interest in rural holiday villas accounted for 10.9% of all enquires – outweighing demand for villas in Costa Teguise.  Which attracted the interest of just 9.12% of all British holiday makers.

However Puerto del Carmen remains the main hotspot for those seeking apartments in Lanzarote.  As the resort was the focus of 56.6% of all apartment enquires.  Reflecting the fact that the resort has the highest concentration of apartment complexes of any destination on the island.
