Maximum exposure is what you should be hoping to gain, but you don’t want to go overboard and put too much time and money into advertising.

It’s obvious that one of the best ways to get your vacation rental looked at, and therefore booked, is

through rental listing websites. Many renters choose to use paid listing sites to gain exposure for their vacation home. The reasons may differ, but using multiple paid websites will offer you more options and different audiences. Some listing sites may have a huge number of traffic, while others may allow you to post more information about your rental. I’d recommend using 2-3 different paid sites. Be sure to do your research on the website before giving them any money to list your vacation rental.

In addition to paid sites, there are loads of free vacation rental listing websites as well. There are some that may just offer you a free trial of their services before requesting a paid membership, but the majority of the free sites are always going to be free. They may have less traffic and user options than the paid, but hey, they don’t cost anything. Free advertising is always nice! For free listing sites, I’d recommend using at least 5 of those. Even if they each only get you 1-2 renters a year, you didn’t have to pay a dime for their business!

It can get time-consuming having more than one listing out there on the Internet, especially if you make a change to your rates, availability, or photos, but you must be sure to update each so there are no false pretenses of your rental. However, being listed on multiple sites is sure to bring you more renters versus just being listed on one single site. It’s also a great way to test slightly different copies of you ads. Be sure to always ask your guests where they heard about you, so you can tell which websites are working for you.
