Rural tourism is growing in popularity on the small Canary Island of Lanzarote.  As more and more visitors seek to connect with the unique volcanic beauty of the island.  Eschewing the hustle and bustle of the main resorts for chic rural hotels and character properties in the countryside.

According to the islands tourist board around 40% of tourists come back to Lanzarote for at least a second holiday.  A relatively high return rate and testament to the fact that the island can inspire a high level of loyalty.

Many of these repeat visitors return looking for something a little different – having explored the island and discovered the natural beauty of Lanzarote. Over the last five years a growing crop of rural hotels and holiday companies have sprung up to cater to this demand.  And now there’s a large selection of Lanzarote villas available for rent in virtually every location across the island.

Haria, in the north, is one of the most attractive locations for a rural holiday.  As this picturesque whitewashed village is located right in the heart of the Valley of 1000 Palms.  Where politically incorrect villagers used to plant a palm tree for every new born girl and two for a boy.  Creating a very atmospheric backdrop.

The Finca La Crucita is located just on the outskirts of the pueblo – and offers eight villas for rental.  Each of which has been named and themed after one of Lanzarote´s many picture postcard villages.  Featuring thick stone walls, traditional rustic furnishings and beautifully planted gardens.  Along with communal facilities such as a swimming pool and chill out area.

At the nearby coastal village of Arrieta tourists can enjoy an eco-friendly break at the Finca del Mar.  Which is powered solely by wind and solar energy.  Making it the first totally green accommodation on the island.  The Finca is located on 30,000 square metres of former farmland.  And guests can enjoy fresh eggs from the chickens as well as rides on the resident pony Molly.

Guests who prefer someone else to do the catering for them will also find plenty of choice available when searching for rural hotels in Lanzarote. One of the best of these establishments is the Finca Salinas – which is located in the pretty village of Yaiza.  Close to Lanzarote´s most popular tourist attraction – the Timanfaya Volcano Park.

This beautiful colonial building once belonged to a businessman who made his pile in the salt business.  Before being restored to its former glory during the 1980´s by the current owners. And today offers very high standards of comfort and luxury in traditional surroundings.  Along with an excellent restaurant and spa.
