The Lanzarote villa rental market is driven by demand from the UK.  As British tourism accounts for around 60% of all arrivals on this small Canary Island, located just off the coast of West Africa.

But as the economic outlook darkens and sterling shows little sign of recovering the ground it lost versus the euro last year in the immediate future UK visitor numbers have started to fall away.  Dropping by around 20% during the first quarter of 2009.

As a result many holidaymakers are now shopping around for the best possible deal.  Booking their holiday much later than in previous years.  And often demanding price discounts or free extras, such as cut price car hire.

For the larger holiday companies with deeper pockets and wider profit margins this type of price discounting isn’t such a problem.  But for many individual private owners of villas in Lanzarote, who have already seen bookings and occupancy levels fall this year, this state of affairs isn’t such welcome news. As it simply eats further into their rental returns.

This situation is most prevalent in the south of the island.  As there is currently an oversupply of holiday villas in Playa Blanca on the rentals market.  Thanks to the fact that thousands of overseas investors have snapped up property in and around the resort to rent out to tourists.  As a result prices are dropping and deals are available.

Playa Blanca is an ideal location for a holiday in Lanzarote.  As the resort boasts the best weather on the island, along with some truly fabulous beaches.  Such as nearby Papagayo and the stretches of sand in the town at Playa Flamingo and Playa Dorada.  The whole of the resort is united by a delightful beach front promenade – making it possible to stroll by the sea from one end of Playa Blanca to the other.

Facilities and amenities in and around the resort have also come on in leaps and bounds in recent years.  The creation of the Marina Rubicon back in 2002

has added a stylish extra dimension.  Providing an atmospheric venue for eating out and a spot of upmarket shopping.  Whilst there are now also many more good quality hotels in Playa Blanca for visitors to select from too.

Playa Blanca is also just a short hop across the water from the neighboruing island of Fuerteventura.  So tourists can in fact visit two Canary Islands for the price of one!  An important consideration in these increasingly price conscious times.
