The current clouds of economic gloom and doom do have the odd silver lining for holidaymakers searching for a bargain break this summer.  As dwindling demand is forcing many hoteliers and holiday companies in Spain to lower accommodation prices in order to fill beds. 

On Lanzarote, the fourth largest of the Spanish owned Canary Islands, price discounts of up to 30% are now available on summer bookings for both hotel and self catering accommodation. 

The Beatriz Hotel group own a brace of the best four star hotels in Lanzarote, in the resorts of Costa Teguise and Matagorda.  Where tourists can now enjoy discounts of 15% for bookings made before the end of the month.  With deals available on both a half board and bed and breakfast tariff.

And it’s not just hotels that are starting to go cheap in the Canaries.  As many owners of private rental accommodation are also starting to find that they are having to fight much harder than before in order to fill their calendars.  Creating further price discounts on Lanzarote villas and apartments.

Holiday villas in Playa Blanca offer the best source of discounts – as there is now a real oversupply of rental property in the resort.  Thanks to the fact that thousands of overseas investors have snapped up villas here over the last decade in order to rent them out to tourists. 

Rates on Lanzarote apartments are also starting to fall – for much the same reason – with holiday makers now able to pick up a weeks stay in a standard one bedroom apartment on a complex with pool for as little as €170 per week.

Lanzarote certainly makes for an ideal holiday destination as the island boasts a great selection of over ninety beautiful beaches.  And also offers visitors loads of things to do, beyond just soaking up the sun.

The best known attraction on the island is the Timanfaya Volcano Park.  Which is the spot where over 300 volcanoes burst from the earth during the 1730´s.  Spewing out a river of lava that covered large swathes of Lanzarote.  Creating a weird, surreal scenery that really is out of this world.

Elsewhere on the island Lanzarote boasts palm packed valleys in and around the villages of Haria and Maguez.  Which are every bit as green and lush as the south is dry and arid.  Best of all the island is manageably small – measuring just 58km by 40km.  Making it easy to hire a car and explore.
