The summer season may have come to a close in mainland Europe. But on the Spanish owned island of Lanzarote in the Canaries the sun carries on shining all year round. And despite recent falls in tourist numbers the island still expects to welcome hundreds of thousands of tourist guests this winter.Â
Â
Lanzarote and the Canaries are in effect Europe’s Caribbean. The islands are the closet genuine winter sun destination to key markets such as Germany and the UK and collectively attracted close to 9 million visitors last year alone. Establishing the Canaries as the second most visited destination in the whole of Spain – second only to Catalonia.
Â
During the winter months tourists can expect to enjoy temperatures in excess of 20 Celsius and plenty more daylight hours – with the sun never setting before 18.00. Along with very low rainfall.
Â
The cost of flights to Lanzarote are expected to be lower this winter than ever before. As competition on this route has started to hot up between the big guns of the low cost flight world – easyJet and Ryanair. Who have both created a number of new services to Lanzarote this winter.
Â
The resort of choice for anyone planning their winter holidays in Lanzarote is Playa Blanca. Which is located right at the southern foot of the island. A location that helps to create the best possible climate with more sunshine hours than any other location on Lanzarote.
Â
There’s a large selection of villas in Playa Blanca for tourists to choose from. Covering all areas of the resort – from Punta Papagayo through to Moñtana Roja. Many of these will already be booked for key periods such as Christmas and New Year. But there is still plenty of availability during December and January for anyone planning a winter sun getaway.
Â
As well as the best weather on the island Playa Blanca also boasts the best beaches. Most notably the set of bays at nearby Papagayo which are around a fifteen minute walk from the two centre. Along with some excellent stretches of sand within the resort itself in the shape of Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo.
Â
Villa rental rates outside of the peak holiday periods are reasonable too. With a two bedroom villa with private pool costing from around £400 per week. Whilst return flights start at around £100. Depending of course on the time of year.

As the article says Playa Blanca is a very good resort. However, there are other great places on Lanzarote such as Costa Teguise and Puerto Del Carmen.
