Since you will be dealing with many different types of people, it is helpful to offer different ways of handling vacation rental payments. Finances can be scary to some rental home owners, but once everything is set up and put into place, you are ready for the fun part: sitting back and accepting the money!
Keep in mind that by the time a renter has decided to book your location, they have probably spent hours, if not days, researching different lodging options. Even though they are sure your home is the best, they may still be a bit hesitant about sending their hard earned money to a stranger. That’s why it is important to have very clear payment and money related policies are so important. They will limit the worry and frustration felt by your guests, and quite possibly, by you.
Be sure you inquirers have been sent all the important information concerning your vacation rentals. All documents need to be printed, signed, and returned, either before you accept any money or along with the initial deposit. You should highly suggest to your guests that they print a copy of the all rules and policies for themselves.
Once your potential renters have agreed to your terms by submitting the required paperwork, you may cover the methods of payment that are available to them. Accepting multiple forms of payment will make it easier on your guests, depending on how they like to pay for things. Below are the most common ways to receive payments for your booking.
- Credit Cards – Simply the safest and easiest way to accept and make payments in the world today. If you choose to only accept one payment method (which, in my opinion, would be crazy!), choose to accept credit cards. It will definitely hurt your business if you refuse their use. With credit cards, everything can be handled online, and you get the funds immediately. No more waiting for checks to reach your mailbox, or to clear the bank!
- Personal Check – This is the most convenient method for your guests, but it can present a risk for you. Make sure that once you receive the check, you cash it immediately. Wait for it to clear before moving further with the transaction.
- PayPal – This is similar to accepting credit cards, only
it is taken one step further. Your guests can also link their PayPal account to their checking account, which enables them to pay for things online money straight from their bank accounts. As the receiver, you can also link your accounts so the money can be deposited into your checking account once you receive it.
- Money Orders and Cashier’s check – These are not very convenient for anyone. For the guests, these can only be obtained at certain locations (banks, post offices, etc.), which adds time and money into the equation of sending off their payment. Scammers use these forms of payment often to get money out of unknowing victims.

Answer: The Tahoe vacation rental area has a variety of rental ideas available.
Truckee is a town in the Tahoe vacation rental area that retains its flavor of days gone by when it was an Old West tourist destination and colorful railroad town. The scenery around this Tahoe vacation rental area is breathtakingly beautiful during all seasons of the year. Truckee sits above Lake Tahoe with views of the lake, snowy picturesque winters, and with sunny green summers made especially for enjoyment.
Check for example:

Tahoe Bear Cabin - Beautiful 3 bedroom home in South Lake Tahoe
South Lake Thaoe Executive Custom Home
Tahoe vacation rental choices in the Truckee area include hotels, motels, bed-and-breakfast places, and private vacation rental houses, condos, cabins, and apartments. Most motel prices run between 100.00 and 225.00 per evening, bed-and-breakfast places will normally run between 200.00 and 275.00 per evening, and luxury fully furnished 3 or 4 bedroom houses will cost about 600.00 per week and higher as priced by owners.
Privately owned Tahoe vacation rental homes or condos are normally the best value deal for tourists to procure for their vacations. Changes are happening in the lodging industry with private owners beginning to compete with motels. Owners equip and decorate full-sized houses in nice neighborhoods, while staying priced competitive or below what the area motels will charge.
Some of the Tahoe vacation rental homes come complete with locking garages that are a nice place to store rented gear; pets, children, and groups may also stay in some of these privately promoted and fully furnished Tahoe vacation rental lodgings. To find these homes, shop online at a vacation planning service, and consider making your reservations ahead of your trip so that your favorite choice is available.
If saving money while on vacation is important to you, finding a vacation home rental in the Truckee area may help you to stay on budget. Tahoe vacation rental homes are fully-furnished, which includes a kitchen with appliances, washer and dryers, cupboards and drawers full of kitchen gear, and a dining room table to eat on. Further money can be saved in Truckee by looking into the town’s transportation options going to local attractions.
All Truckee lodging has a 10% Truckee tax that is charged over the listed prices on all of their Tahoe vacation rental motels, and houses; this is a common practice for many towns around the Tahoe area. Other hidden costs that vacation travelers should plan for are motel staff tips, restaurant service tips, laundry dryer coins for wet snow gear and any parking fees that apply.
Tahoe vacation rental houses, condos, cabins, and apartments come in all sizes and price ranges. The most common size available is a 3-bedroom lodging that will come with internet, televisions, linen, kitchen gear, and everything else that you need to make your stay enjoyable. Some homes have jetted tubs, saunas, or Jacuzzi’s while others have pool tables, wet bars, and bicycles included in your Tahoe vacation house rent. Every vacation taker can find something that they like in a Tahoe vacation house rental.
