The Republic of Slovenia is the first former communist state to be a member of the European Union, the Eurozone, and NATO. Located in south central Europe, Slovenia has many great neighbors that provide wonderful influences on their people and the culture. Throughout the history of the country, it has been part of many different empires and republics, such as the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Austrian Empire, and Yugoslavia. These poets and writers provide a wonderful look into Slovenia of the past and the culture and history of the country as well. There are also a great many wonderful painters that are from Slovenia as well, such as Ivana Kobilca, Rihard Jakopic, and Zoran Music. Since there is such as wealth of musicians and composers from Slovenia, there is also no shortage of wonderful traditional and classical music that you can enjoy while you are vacationing here as well.
