The uncharted beauty of Kodachadri Mountain Peak is a natural heritage site situated in the Western Ghats of South India in Karnataka’s Shivamogga District, which is 75 km away from Shimoga. Kodachadri is the tenth highest peak of Karnataka, standing 1343 metres above sea level. It is famous for its adventurous trekking journey. The trekking adventure will take you through Dense forest, paddy fields, Vast Greenlands, and the Mesmerising waterfall. Kodachadri trek is also famous for its Scintillating sunrise and sunset, the backdrop to the famous Kollur Mookambika temple, and a unique temple dedicated to Sage Adi Shankara.

Let us guide you on how to reach the place

This is the easiest way to reach Kodachadri. Board a flight to Bangalore, Book a cab to Nittur where you can stay, and Start the trek the next day. From Bangalore to Nittur it will take you around 3 hours to reach, another way is to board a train from Kundapura Railway station and book a cab till Nittur, this will take around 7 hours.

The second option is to reach Kollur, which is 130 km away from Mangalore (nearest Airport) and  430 km from Bangalore. Kollur to Kodachadri is approximately 30 Km, Stay in Kollur and hire an Off-Roading Vehicle such as a 4X4 jeep with an experienced driver to take you to the top of the hills. Our advice will be to avoid your personal vehicle as it is a steep ride from the bottom to the top of the hill.

As there are no places to stay on the top of hills, You can Book homestays and hotels in Kollur or Nittur and start your adventure the next day. These are not expensive either but we can say it is reasonable.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit the hills will be after monsoons which are from October till May, As the weather is pleasant and clear. Please be cautious and hire a local guide or an experienced trekking crew during this time. This is not the most difficult journey but for beginners who want to trek it is a very good option to start from this place, but be aware of the slippery surface and leeches.

Places to Visit and Things to do in Kodachadri Hills

1.Ganesh Guha  and Sarvanja Peetha, which is situated on the peak of the hill, is believed to be the meditation place for Sage Adi Shankar. This place is known for its many mysteries and folklore revolving around the Ganesh temple built in a cave where an ancient Ganesh Idol can be found along the trekking route.

2.Hidlumane Waterfall is 5 km away from the Kodachadri trek, as the trekking adventure will take you through the vast forest reserve that will captivate you with its addictive beauty. As it is away from all the hustle and bustle of our concrete jungles you will get a chance to connect closely with nature.

3.Sunset and Sunrise are the most mesmerising and golden scenes during your trek or visit to this hill. In clear weather, you can spot the Arabian Sea from here.

4.Nagara Fort, Kollur Mookambika Temple, Jog Falls, and Udupi are also nearby attractions you can visit during your stay in Kollur.

Tips for trekking to Kodachadri

Kodachadri trekking can take around  8 to 10 hours, as many solo travellers and tourists tries to enjoy every macroscopic details of the journey  .Here is our tips to keep in Mind

1.Make sure you have planned your Trek properly on how to cover and which places to visit during your journey.

2.Hire a Local guide to take you through the journey so that you can make the most out of it .

3.Pack a first aid kit and your necessary medication with you all the time.Drinking water and snacks are a must for the journey.

4.Pack the essentials only and keep a trekking cloth Handy .Pack your bag as light as possible. You have to cover the hills without getting tired easily .

5.If you are planning to camp ,please have all the camping equipment with you.

6.Now the most important and final tip is “ENJOY AND LIVE THE MOMENT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE” .
