Mendocino County, California – In the 1850s, immigrant farmers who failed as Gold Rush prospectors began planting the first wine grapes in Mendocino County. The winegrowers rode on horseback through the area on jagged hillsides and ridges with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Today, visitors in Mendocino County can do to same thing. The wineries of Mendocino are the main reason to take a weekend visit. Parducci Wine Cellars and Navarro Vineyards are two great wineries in the area. Another spectacular attraction of Mendocino is Ten Mile Beach, a section of beach where you can ride horseback and take in the scenery of osprey pelicans overhead and whales off=shore. Some wineries offer all-inclusive weekend stays that combine wine-tastings and horseback riding. The all-inclusive trips allow the visitor to take advantage of all that Mendocino County has to offer.
